高校・大学の学費無償化
国際人権規約というものがあります。日本は1979年に批准しています。

今年は批准から３０年目の節目を迎えるわけですが、中等・高等教育の学費無償化条項は留保したままです。

2009年6月8日(月)付け「しんぶん赤旗」によれば、
「高校と大学の学費を段階的に無償化することを定めた国際人権規約のＡ規約（社会権規約）第１３条を留保している日本など３カ国のうち、ルワンダが昨年１２月に留保を撤回していたことが分かりました。これで、同条項を留保している国は、条約加盟国１６０カ国中（０９年５月現在）、日本とマダガスカルの２カ国だけとなりました。」

世界難民の日
６月２０日は世界難民の日です。
国連UNHCR協会では世界難民の日のキャンペーンサイト「NO HOME YES HOPE」を公開中です。
先日MSF = 国境なき医師団 から送られてきたニュースレター「REACT」2009年6月号のテーマも「難民/避難民になるということ」でした。
日本にいると想像もできませんが、難民の方々は、本当に様々な困難に直面することになります。
日本では難民認定数が少なく、難民の方からお話を伺える機会もほとんどありませんが、世界難民の日が、難民についてより深く知るきっかけになればと思います。

今日受け取った今週のメールニュースで取り上げられていたのは、下記のスーダン、EU、イスラエル/ガザ、ソマリア、スリランカ、イラン、アメリカ、国連の問題でした。
日本では、東京事務所が2009年4月9日に開設されたばかりのようですが、さっそく日本語ニュースも配信しているようです。
このメールニュースを見ていると、毎回、こんなに重大なことが世界で起きているのに、ふだんの生活の中では、ほとんど聞こえてこないということに違和感を感じてしまいます。
